Same car:
NEW: Used CM/CSP to make the audio the same.
Otherwise identical cars, but one has four times as much torque, Motherfuckers.
Don't try to tell me there is anything more than trivial differences between driving and laptimes in each car.
Flame on!
What is interesting though is that when I read that the definition of Torque is "Torque is a measure of the force that can cause an object to rotate about an axis", I think how wouldn't it be extremely important?
ReplyDeleteCould it be that it would only matter if these two cars were LOADED with, say, 1 extra ton, the Higher torque one would do much better? Because then the force applied to the axle starts to be relevant (instead of the normal situation where the speed is determined by many other variables and torque is not the most important one here)
Again, I'm a complete physics newbie...
Torque at the engine, as is quoted by nigh on all sources, is what is meaningless.
DeleteThe above two cars have identical torque at the rear wheels for any given speed and gear.
So, figured if I was going to bite I may as well do so on work time and get a story out of it.

TL;DR - I agree that it's quoted out of context way too liberally, and the above cars performing the same is just the result of having fun with math (torque x rpm /5252 = power).
Ha Ha slash lol. A fellow League member spotted that article yesterday. Thumbs up!

Cool, will check it out. Although my internet (and my driving if I'm honest) sucks for racing (I'm more of a hotlap driver; because 4G ping and infinite attempts).
DeleteAnd you can tell the crew that the online versions of my Motoring stories go national at 10am every Wednesday, and not in just CT (including many mastheads that aren't behind a paywall; just Google my name).
And someone might surely figure out what publisher I worked for prior to ACM (hint, a Ford fan might be first to do so).
The car drives terrific, one of my favorites. Could you please integrate rain tires and a functioning LED dough would be great
